A student visa costs and is only issued once you’ve been accepted onto a course and paid half of the first year fees up-front. To keep the student visa you do need to have good attendance to class and good results.
As a student you will also need to pay your day-to-day living and private health insurance Overseas Student Health Cover starts at $312 AU per year. Your visa does however, allow you to work for up to 20 hours per week.
Student Visas you can gain are for:
- English for Overseas Students ELICOS.
- Certificate and diploma studies- Vocation Education and Training.
- Bachelor degree or a graduate certificate or diploma - Higher Education.
- Masters and Doctorate Studies
When the course is finished, the visa expires and it is time to say goodbye. However, you may find you have been studying on a course that gives you the skills and profession needed by Australia. There is still a skills shortage here!
To help keep valuable graduates here, after completing your studies you can apply for a Graduate Student Permanent Visa. This costs between AUD$ 1-4,000 to apply for and it has a points criteria.
